Delicious Cheddar Cheese Bread: Combine Parmesan, flour, spices, cubed cheddar, milk, sour cream, egg, and butter for a cheesy, flavorful loaf!

BreadSide Dish

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce Shredded Parmesan Cheese (1/3 cup)
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour (4 3/8 ounces)
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • pinch Cayenne Pepper
  • pinch Pepper
  • 2 ounces Extra-Sharp Cheddar Cheese, cut into 1/4-inch cubes (1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 cup Whole Milk
  • 3 tablespoons Sour Cream
  • 1 Large Egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter, melted and cooled

Instructions

  1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 5 1/2 by 3-inch loaf plan, then sprinkle 2 tablespoons parmesan evenly over bottom of pan.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, cayenne, and pepper together in medium bowl. Fold in cheddar, breaking up any clumps, until cheese is coated with flour mixture. In separate bowl, whisk milk, sour cream, egg, and melted butter together until smooth. Gently fold milk mixture into flour mixture with rubber spatula until just combined. (Batter will be heavy and thick, do not overmix.)
  3. Scrape butter into prepared pan, smooth top, and sprinkle with remaining parmesan. Bake until loaf is golden brown and toothpick inserted into center comes out with a few crumbs attached, 30 to 40 minutes, rotating pan halfway through baking.
  4. Let loaf cool in pan on wire rack for 5 minutes. Remove loaf from pan and let cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
